put line art and colour art in different layers

Node library>auto-patch> place it by the “upper arm”> connect the auto patch from top to the “upper arm”> connect the auto patch from bottom to above the “lower arm” (Keep the auto patch above the layer that you need to patch )

peg

In the node view> select all drawings> shift+command+p> peg created

select the rotation point drawing>hit the solo key> select the peg> rotation point tool> drag the pivot point to the central of the rotation point

open the properties (yellow box) of “hand peg” and “wrist peg”> copy&paste the x and y axis values from”wrist peg”to”hand peg”

to connect the shoulder and the upper arm: (do the same to the lower arm&elbow, hand&wrist)

select both pegs> command+p> to create a peg> connect the peg to both shoulder and upper arm pegs

Add a master peg:

connect the master to shoulder&upper arm peg> connect the master to the elbow&lower arm peg> connect the elbow&lower arm peg to the wrist&hand peg

animate on the master peg with keyframes

(select peg, hit R to reset)

Colour in TV paint

  • select the lineart layer
  • >new
  • >duplicate the strcuture
  • paint bucket
  • > colour the full screen
  • > duble click under the colour layer frame
  • > press enter (colour all frames)
  • > change “source” to display
  • > press left key (to clear extra colour) on the mouse outside the character lineart, create a silhouette
  • > adjust “smooth””gap closer””expand” to a value that suit the lineart
  • > press enter to apply this to all frames
  • > adjust each frame
  • > turn on”enable the stencil”, (It’s like alpha lock) to draw only inside the silhouette
  • “duplicate the structure” for any other new layers of the character (hair, clothes, face..)

export to after effects

  • select all the character layers&label line and colour separately
  • export to
  • the tab- all layers and frames
  • json+images
  • choose png, change the compression to 1, take out the background
  • make a folder (eg. json_character_demo.)
  • export
  • download the json script file (from the padlet)
  • file> scripts> install script file> choose the json file
  • create a composition: master comp (the final work)
  • name the exported composition: character

use the camera:

layer>new>camera (change the project to 3d)

  • layer
  • >new>null object> to put on the top of the layers
  • > click on parenting tool (the spiral)
  • > parent the camera to the null object
  • > tick every 3d boxes of every layers (including the null object)
  • >choose active camera> custom space2
  • use orbit around tool and selection tool
  • animate/add keyframes to the null object

when import the character:

make sure that the character is on the same z axis as the surface they are standing on.
